The Department of Communication, Media, Journalism & Film at Missouri State University is sponsoring guest Filmmaker Alejandro Zavala with a free educational screening of his feature REAL ONES followed by Q&A with Alejandro Zavala (producer, writer, director).Alejandro Zavala’s path to filmmaking hasn’t been a straight one. With experience in law and business, he brings a different perspective to the stories he tells. Stories about trauma, survival, redemption, and the possibility of starting over.
Zavala founded Reel Ones Studios based in Kansas City, MO and created the Real Ones film franchise, inspired in part by his forthcoming memoir, Memoir of a Real One. Over the past 16 months, he has produced two features: REAL ONES and BROKEN ONES, starring Terrence Howard and Kate Bosworth. BROKEN ONES wrapped filming in Kansas City this past June.
Currently, Zavala is focused on growing Reel Ones Studios and creating more opportunities for filmmakers in Missouri. With a third feature in the works and another production planned for April, he hopes to make four films in about two years.
Don’t miss a free educational screening of REAL ONES on Thursday, November 5, at 4:00 PM at College Station Theater in Springfield. A Q&A with Zavala will follow. The screening is sponsored by Missouri State University’s Department of Communication, Media, Journalism & Film. Admission is free, and seating is first comes first served.
