Peace in the Desert Church Makes Christmas Crafting Easy for FamiliesFamily Advent Preparation Offers Crafts, Cocoa and Meaningful Christmas Traditions Without the Mess
The holidays are busy enough without adding another trip to the craft store—or another afternoon cleaning glitter and glue from the kitchen table. This December, Peace in the Desert Church is making it easy for families to create something beautiful together with its annual Family Advent Preparation Crafting on Sunday, December 6, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.
Families are invited to step away from the holiday rush and spend a relaxed afternoon creating Advent wreaths and Christmas crafts at the church, located at 11735 N. Scottsdale Road in Scottsdale.
The idea is simple: come, create, enjoy, and take it home.
Families don't have to gather supplies, figure out a craft project, or worry about what to do with the leftovers. Peace in the Desert Church will provide the materials and a welcoming space where children and adults can work side-by-side. When the crafting is finished, families can take their creations home and use them to decorate for Christmas.
And, of course, no holiday gathering would be complete without something sweet.
A festive hot cocoa bar will offer plenty of ways to make a cup of cocoa special, including whipped cream, marshmallows, sprinkles, candy canes and other holiday treats. Families can sip, snack, craft and enjoy time together while preparing their homes—and their hearts—for Christmas.
One of the event's featured projects is an Advent wreath, a tradition that helps families mark the four Sundays leading up to Christmas. The evergreen wreath represents God's everlasting love, while its candles traditionally represent the themes of hope, peace, joy and love.
“Christmas can be such a wonderful time, but families are also juggling school, work, activities, shopping and all the other things that come with the season,” said Pastor Leah Bergstrom. “We wanted to create an opportunity where families could simply show up and enjoy making something together. We'll provide the supplies, the space and the treats. Families get to take their creations home and continue the Advent tradition together.”
The event is designed for children, parents, grandparents and friends—anyone who would enjoy an easy, meaningful way to begin the Christmas season.
Rather than adding another item to a family's holiday to-do list, Peace in the Desert Church hopes the afternoon will become a treasured part of the season: a little creativity, a little cocoa, a little laughter and a reminder that some of the most meaningful Christmas moments happen when families simply make time to be together.

Peace in the Desert Church is a union congregation of the United Methodist Church (Desert Southwest Conference) and the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (Grand Canyon Synod), formed in August 2026 through the merger of North Scottsdale United Methodist Church and Ascension Lutheran Church.
Peace in the Desert Church celebrates the love of God through Christ by offering a 10AM online and in-person service on Sunday. Sunday school is available in-person and online @ www.nsumckids.info. They have children and youth activities including; children’s choir, volleyball, mission trips, small groups, festivals and youth groups.
