One of J. S. Bach’s most important works, Cantata 106 “Gottes Zeit ist die allerbeste Zeit,” forms the centerpiece of this concert. With texts that come from both the Hebrew Bible and the New Testament, as well as several hymns, this funeral cantata is filled with hope. These texts inspire the Renaissance and contemporary selections that comprise the remainder of the program, including a setting by Caspar Othmayr of the last words of Martin Luther.
