About this Event
For the next session of A2B listening series, we invite artist, photographer, and musician Tze Long where she will explore the representation of female identity in 1990s Hong Kong pop music through Sandy Lam’s 1991 concept album, Wildflower. By analyzing the album's floral metaphors and Dick Lee's East-West musical fusion, the session highlights the portrayal of the modern urban woman as a self-possessed, independent, and gently drifting figure.
Using an interpretive framework based on the Triple Goddess archetypes and Jungian Shadow Integration, the talk maps out various feminine emotional states. It then contextualizes Wildflower alongside other iconic 1990s singers like Anita Mui and Faye Wong, ultimately tracing how these diverse feminine expressions continue to influence contemporary East Asian female creators.
Note: The talk will be held in Cantonese, but as always, music is universal.
