About this Event
Alex Galloway (Professor of Media, Culture, and Communication, NYU) and Andrea Capra (Assistant Professor of Italian Studies, NYU) join Mark Sanders (Professor of Comparative Literature and English, NYU) to discuss his recent book, A Will for the Machine: Computerization, Automation, and the Arts in South Africa. How have writers, and visual and performing artists responded to computerization and automation? How does an awareness of past waves of automation and computerization shed light on present hopes and fears around AI? What is illuminating about the South African case? These are some of the questions that the author and his interlocutors will discuss. Introduction by Cristina Vatulescu (Director, Center for the Humanities)
Copies of the book will be available for purchase on-site.
