About this Event
Birmingham Bach Choir performs:
Vaughan Williams: Mass in G Minor
Parry: Songs of Farewell
Holst: Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day
Conductor: Paul Spicer
Organist: Martyn Rawles
"This will be a memorable concert for both choir and audience, celebrating English music: Vaughan Williams' beautiful setting of the mass, sung in two-choir formation with four soloists, creates a rich tapestry of sound.
Parry's amazing partsongs have some of the most moving music to be written at this time.
To these major works we add Holst's gloriously upbeat 'Tomorrow Shall Be My Dancing Day'." (Paul Spicer, Conductor)
Birmingham Bach Choir is one of the country's leading large chamber choirs and performs a wide range of choral music. Its most recent performance of a light-hearted summer programme (A Date with Shakespeare, in Bridgnorth on 4 July 2026) received the following praise:
" 'Songs and Sonnets’ and ‘Music to Hear’ by George Shearing bookended the concert and were an utter delight with the choir producing a lovely light touch throughout, especially in the a cappella sections. ‘Who is Sylvia’ from the first set with its warmth of sound was particularly gorgeous, and indeed provided a fitting encore to close the performance." (Keith Horsfall)
We advise audiences that children under the age of 6 are not admitted to our concerts: accompanied older children and students are welcome to attend with a student ticket.
