About this Event
Hana is currently working on an archival heavy documentary that incorporates three generations of my family filming various returns to Palestine. As I think through this film I want to experiment with narrative building as a collective process.
Bringing together disparate elements of our sense of place and home as we think about our creative process. How do we tie together seemingly isolated elements of life to synthesize a story? Film collage is an idea that speaks to this, so the workshop can come together as a film screening followed by actual collage making.
In this workshop we ask participants to bring an object from their archive; it could be a photo, a poem, a text message, or a twig. We would think of this archival object alongside relationships to nature using the three guided questions: “what is a tree that raised you” “if you could ask the soil a question what would it be” and “what are the roots of your resistance”.
Participants work through this by creating a collage board using their object and these questions as guidance.By the end of the workshop participants would have the roots or seed of an idea to expand in their creative practice.
