A Still Life
The Madre Project hosts a new monthly group creative practice - A Still Life is a gentle creative gathering for (m)others, an invitation to step out of the noise of everyday life and into a slower, softer space.
Around a long communal table, we’ll create a shared still life of objects, perhaps flowers, and other artifacts, surrounded by paper. There’s no finished piece to make and no artistic skill required. Instead, you’re invited to simply look, draw, notice and play adding your marks to the growing collective artwork.
There will be coffee, conversation and drawing materials, but also permission for quiet. You can chat, doodle, draw deeply, stare at the still life, drink your coffee or simply sit for a while.
This isn’t an art class.
It’s not another thing to achieve.
It’s 90 minutes to still the noise.
Led and facilitated by @themotherresearcher; Sandy is founder of The Madre Project & a lecturer in philosophy at The University of Chichester, where she is researching a PhD on the biopolitics of motherhood. She is also an artist and creative, passionate about bringing people together in community and solidarity.

Babes in arms are very welcome. We know that sometimes rest needs to happen alongside a baby. To protect the quiet, restful atmosphere of the gathering, this event isn’t suitable for older children. We want to create a rare space where (m)others can genuinely pause.
