Thursday 10/1, 5pm-8pm: Opening reception for A Soft Place to Land
Thursday 10/15, 6pm-7:30pm: Resilience meditation led by member artist Dawn-Starr Crowther
In a world that often feels like it’s fraying at the edges, A Soft Place to Land creates exactly that - a hand-built refuge that offers moments of calm and quiet. Chunky, tactile tapestries hang from sculptural installations that serve as both loom and architecture, while fabric drapes loosely between them to soften the edges of the room. Scattered throughout are chairs transformed into looms themselves - everyday objects reclaimed as the structure of the weaving, blurring the line between where the work was made and where it now rests.
This exhibit asks what it means to build softness deliberately, thread by thread, in a moment that so often withholds it. Each piece carries the marks of its own making - knots, tension, mended breaks - as a quiet argument for care as craft and craft as care. Visitors are invited to view the work as well as to take up space within it: to occupy the chairs-turned-looms, feel the peaceful hush created by the weight of the drape, and consider their own need for a soft place to land.
