About the Book
Inspired by E.M. Forster’s A Passage to India, this adaptation brings to the surface the hidden desires that Forster himself could only hint at. Written in a storyteller-theatre style, the play focuses on Dr. Aziz, Cyril Fielding, and Adela Quested—three characters whose tangled emotions cross boundaries of culture, class, and empire. As Aziz and Fielding grapple with their unspoken attraction, and Adela confronts her own unexpected longing for Aziz, passion collides with repression. In a society governed by colonial authority and rigid moral codes, their desires cannot be contained—and the cost of silence, denial, and forbidden intimacy is devastating.
About the Author
Doug DeVita is a playwright whose work has been described as "darkly funny," "emotionally sharp," and occasionally "too real." His blacker-than-black comedy Goddess Of The Hunt recently won a BroadwayWorld Regional Award for Best Play. He’s a two-time O’Neill Semi-Finalist and has collected a modest pile of semi-finalist laurels and a few shiny Fresh Fruit Awards along the way. His work has been produced coast to coast (plus London!), developed by the Kennedy Center (back when it was still "woke"), and are published by Next Stage Press and Smith & Kraus. He’s a proud member of the Dramatists Guild and even prouder when people spell his name right.
