About this Event
On November 20, 2024, six-year-old Joshua Al-Lateef tragically lost his life in an accidental drowning after going missing from his West Chester home. In the wake of this heartbreaking loss, his family turned their grief into purpose by establishing the Joshua Al-Lateef Jr. Foundation.
The Foundation works to raise awareness of the unique safety risks faced by individuals with autism, provide scholarships for swim and water-survival lessons, and advocate for legislation that protects families of individuals with autism and developmental disabilities.
Joshua’s mother, Jonisa Cook, also led the effort to establish “The Joshua Alert,” House Bill 359—a statewide emergency alert system designed to help protect children with autism and other developmental disabilities who go missing. Through this work, Joshua’s legacy continues to create awareness, promote safety, and inspire meaningful change.
