“Let me play the lion too!” Our version of Shakespeare’s A Midsummer Night’s Dream will be taken over by one of its sub plots. In the traditional version of the play Shakespeare creates six working class people who are rehearsing a play within the play. Peter Quince, a carpenter; Nick Bottom, a weaver; Francis Flute, a bellows mender; Tom Snout, a tinker; Snug, a joiner; Robin Starveling, a tailor; are all members of an amateur theatrical group who are working on a production of Pyramus and Thisbe – an ancient Greek tale found in the work of Shakespeare’s favorite poet – Ovid. In our production this play, this group of very funny, sometimes misguided, but often brilliant actors will not only be producing this ancient story of ill-fated lovers, but they will be telling… the whole story.
