The Fight to Stop the Demolition of Public Housing in Chelsea

New York City wants to move forward with a plan to demolish 18 public housing buildings in Chelsea, the first mass demolition of public housing in the city’s history. Residents are fighting to save their homes and stop a plan that could set a dangerous precedent for communities across New York City.

Join us for a free screening of A HOME WORTH FIGHTING FOR, a 40-minute documentary that takes viewers inside the struggle at Fulton and Elliott-Chelsea Houses, where longtime residents are organizing against the demolition of public housing.

The screening will be followed by a panel discussion and audience Q&A exploring the issues raised in the film, the ongoing fight in Chelsea, and what this proposal could mean for the future of public housing in New York City.

About the Film

Through the eyes of longtime residents fighting to save their homes, A HOME WORTH FIGHTING FOR exposes a flawed political process that prioritizes private development over the preservation of public housing and dismisses residents’ calls for transparency.

While the demolition plan has been promoted as resident-driven, the film follows residents who challenge that narrative and question a proposal that would demolish their public housing and open valuable public land in Chelsea to market-rate development.

Determined to defend their homes and community, residents organize to resist demolition and a broader push toward the privatization of public housing.
