The Spooky Men have redefined male singing over the last 25 years with their humour and musicianship. Here in their smaller formation - A Fistful of Spookies - they join forces with the all-female Emma Salokoski Voices from Finland, for an evening of sensational English and Scandinavian songs alongside musings on the role of the 21st century male.Emma Salokoski Voices (Finland)
Emma Salokoski Voices is a vocal ensemble, choir and collective that makes music with curiosity and passion. The group has been active for over 15 years, and done all sorts of projects combining different artforms, like dance, visual arts and theatre. For instance, ESV has composed and created the modern musical cabaret “Body Positive!”, explored the possibilities of distorting the choir's sound with electronics with the project “Voices & Noises”, done Vocal Painting and Sound painting, and performed on various stages of festivals, concert houses and clubs. They released their first album “Juhlien jälkeen” (After the Party) in 2024. The material consists of songs composed especially for ESV to poems in Finnish, Swedish and English.
The artistic leader, Emma Salokoski, is an award-winning and well-known Finnish vocalist, composer and musical chameleon who has toured actively for twenty years and released ten albums with different jazz and pop groups. Emma Salokoski Voices consists of professional singers as well as devoted amateurs. The group builds bridges between different forms of art and keeps searching for new channels for their creative energy and self-expression with genuine presence, versatility and humour.
The collaboration between Emma Salokoski Voices and Spooky Men’s Chorale began in 2019 with a joint concert in Helsinki. On the 2026 English tour, Emma Salokoski Voices will present a combination of harrowing horror stories based on traditional Finnish poems, a few interesting pop songs in English, some compositions by the choristers themselves, and a few songs from their album “Juhlien jälkeen” (After the Party).
