Join us in the Appel Salon for a Chorus of Connection with Choir! Choir! Choir! founders, Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman, in performance and conversation with Craig Pike and host Elamin Abdelmahmoud.
For one evening, the Appel Salon becomes a choir. Daveed Goldman and Nobu Adilman will teach a song to a room full of people who have never sung together, and you'll hear a crowd turn into something that sounds and feels like a community. Between songs, Goldman and Adilman will be joined by That Choir Artistic Director Craig Pike to talk about why choirs matter, and what it tells us about the kinds of gatherings our city needs more of.
What is it about singing together that cuts through isolation so effectively? How does harmonizing with people we've never met create bonds that outlast the song? And what can an institution like the public library learn from a model built entirely on radical, no-barrier participation.
Come for an evening where strangers become a choir, and a choir becomes community.

This friendly, no-pressure workshop breaks the ice with easy hand-drumming patterns and group rhythm games designed to help total strangers find their beat before the main event (no musical background or experience is necessary). Register for this pre-event workshop HERE.
The Music Café! | 5:30 – 6:30 pm & 8:00 – 9:00 pm (no registration necessary)
Pull up a chair at the Music Café, where the conversation starters are about the songs that made you cry, the album that got you through a breakup or the lyric you still can't get out of your head. Prompt cards on artists, genres, memories and moods will be available. This is a low-stakes way to bond with a stranger over shared taste (or gloriously different ones). Take a seat, swap a song story, and leave with a new favourite recommendation.

Through conversation stations meant to spark one-on-one conversations, or hands-on engagement activities and workshops before the featured event, participants can explore the value of connection and community.

Time: Doors open 5:30pm, Onstage event starts 7:00pm.
Tickets: Free registration required.
