An engaging 6 day course (across 6 weeks) designed to extend, or reignite, your creativity through drawing, painting, printmaking & collage.
About this Event

In this 6-week course (Wednesday 9th September - Wednesday 14th October) you will be supported to develop creative ideas, experiment with different media and techniques to take an idea from inception to completion, inspired by your choice of location, city or landscape. Our motifs will be developed from your favourite place, whether that is a cherished holiday spot, a much loved city, your home town or much visited landscape.

By the end of the course you'll have a sketchbook packed with technical experiments and ideas for future development. All materials and resources are provided along with copious amounts of tea and homemade cake. Total cost £240. A £30 deposit secures your place, the remainder is payable in the first session.

Session 1:

Using drawing as a tool to gather and record; for developing our thinking and honing in on aspects / themes which interest us. We will be mark-making with different materials and tools.

Session 2:

Developing a palette of colours and materials using paints, inks, print-making and collage, considering the effects which can be created with different materials and surfaces.

Session 3:

Printmaking - exploring screen-, mono- and gelli printing to generate and layer images. You'll learn how to replicate these techniques at home using simple everyday materials.

Session 4:

Compose and combine. Working on your individual ideas, Sarah will support you in bringing together the elements you have created into a cohesive idea or series of works. You will be encouraged to develop this in your chosen medium, whether that is paint, collage, print, textiles / stitch or, most likely, a combination of these approaches. Everyone's artwork will be different and individuality is encouraged.

Session 5:

Development - honing and refining your ideas and pieces in response to feedback. Sarah will nudge you to try new approaches and extend your ideas.

Session 6:

Resolving and reflecting. Bringing your artwork to a conclusion - knowing when it it finished! Reflecting on your learning, considering next steps and how to further develop your ideas. As well as learning how to present your finished pieces.
