A tulip poplar descended from Maryland's Liberty Tree — the Annapolis tree where colonists gathered before the Revolution — will be planted inside the walls of Old St. Paul's Cemetery, and a marker will be dedicated alongside it.The cemetery is normally locked. This is a rare chance to walk the grounds where Lt. Col. George Armistead, commander of Fort McHenry during the 1814 bombardment, Col. John Eager Howard, and Samuel Chase, a signer of the Declaration of Independence, are buried.
Free and open to everyone. Bring the kids.
Hosted by the Friends of Old St. Paul's Cemetery with the War of 1812 Society in the State of Maryland, the Sons of the American Revolution (SAR), the Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR), and the United States Daughters of 1812.
