The OJJ Invitational starts Saturday morning with a Kids Jiu-Jitsu Round Robin Tournament built to give young athletes more competition experience and more time on the mat. This isn’t a traditional tournament. We aren’t crowning bracket champions or putting the focus on who finishes first, second, or third. The goal is simple: get kids quality matches.
Athletes will be grouped as closely as possible by age, weight, and experience level and compete in a round-robin format. This gives them multiple opportunities to step onto the mat, work through the nerves, test their Jiu Jitsu, and gain experience competing against kids outside their own academy.
We’ll also make every effort to avoid teammate matchups so kids can get rounds with new opponents.
There will be no coaching during matches. Coaches are encouraged to support their athletes before and after they compete, but once the match starts, we’re letting the kids compete. We want them to have fun, make their own decisions, work through positions on their own, and experience competition without someone shouting instructions from the sidelines.
