The Davis Astronomy Club will be hosting a special meeting to participate in the annual world-wide NASA's International Observe the Moon Night event on Saturday, September 19, starting at 6:30pm at Explorit Science Center (3141 5th Street, Davis). All ages are welcome to this free event.
The International Observe the Moon Night is an occasion to appreciate the beauty, grandeur, and importance of our Earth's sole natural satellite. This global event is held every year in September/October around the first-quarter phase of the Moon when it is observable all evening.
This annual free event is sponsored by NASA’s Lunar Reconnaissance Orbiter mission and the Solar System Exploration Division at NASA’s Goddard Space Flight Center.
Join us indoors for the presentation of the unique features and significance of our Moon, followed by a star party outdoors where we will observe the first-quarter phase Moon, planets Venus and Saturn, and the stars.
