About this Event
Water connects us all—from the Biscayne Aquifer beneath our feet to our neighborhoods, canals, coastal waters, landscapes, and the Everglades.
The 2026 Broward County Water Ambassador Program is an engaging five-week UF/IFAS Extension educational experience designed to help Broward County residents understand where our water comes from, how our everyday choices affect it, and what we can do together to protect it.
Through interactive learning sessions and field experiences, participants will follow South Florida’s water story from the Biscayne Aquifer and local urban waterways to our landscapes and the Everglades. Along the way, participants will explore water quality, pollution, conservation, Florida-Friendly Landscaping™, native ecosystems, community engagement, and the connections that make South Florida’s water system so extraordinary.
This is more than a class—it is an opportunity to experience our water, build a personal connection with it, and become part of a community committed to protecting it.

Follow South Florida’s flow of water, examine water quality and pollution, and participate in a planned South Florida Water Management District water-flow site experience.

From Aquifer to Coast: This Is Our Water

Explore the Biscayne Aquifer—our primary source of water—and discover how our lakes, canals, coastal waters, landscapes, and natural areas are interconnected. Participants will also examine the impact of plastics in our waterways and identify opportunities for action.

From Knowledge to Action: Let’s See What Protecting Water Can Look Like

Learn how community action, social norms, Florida-Friendly Landscaping™, and Master Gardener Volunteers can help create meaningful and lasting landscape change.
WEEK 5 – EXPERIENCE
The Everglades: Connecting with the Heart of South Florida’s Water
November 2, 2026
Explore the Everglades ecosystem, its cultural history, and its essential connection to South Florida’s water.
An optional Everglades boat experience may be available for an additional participant fee. Advance registration will be required. This experience is subject to final confirmation, availability, and weather and water conditions.
WHO SHOULD JOIN?
This program is ideal for Broward County homeowners, gardeners, Master Gardener Volunteers, educators, community leaders, volunteers, and residents who want to:
• Better understand and protect South Florida’s water resources
• Create sustainable, water-wise landscapes
• Support native wildlife and healthy ecosystems
• Make informed choices at home and in their communities
• Help build a stronger, more water-resilient Broward County
No previous water or environmental experience is required—just curiosity and a desire to learn and make a difference.
PROGRAM DETAILS
This is a five-week cohort-based program. One $50 registration includes all five sessions. Participants are expected to attend the full program; wekly or individual-session registration is not available.

Program Series Fee: $50 per person (Five Weeks)
The program fee includes:
• Five weeks of educational programming
• Program shirt
• Class materials and educational resources
• Light snacks
• Scheduled program experiences, unless otherwise noted
Optional experiences may require advance registration and an additional participant fee. All field experiences are subject to final confirmation, availability, and weather, water, or site conditions.
