Ready to Welcome Back Free Bird’s Open Mic Crew — and We're Making It Count! ?️?
Sign up 7pm, Open Mic 7–11pm ? Free Bird Cafe Chiang Mai
This month we're doing something different.
Since it's our first Open Mic back in a while, we decided to go big, and go with purpose. This night stands in solidarity with and celebrates Palestinian people, their culture, and their resilience. We're here to raise our voices and raise funds.
The event is still FREE ENTRY — and in the spirit of mutual aid, there will be plenty of ways to contribute if you can. Palestinian olive oil, Ibrahim’s family cookbook, posters, stickers, art will be for sale and donation boxes will be around Free Bird, with proceeds going directly to support our friend Reem's journey from Gaza to Ireland to study her impactful Master's (details will be shared at the event).
? For a special twist, we're inviting performers to share pieces tied to the themes of resistance, resilience, power struggle, hope, and love. Interpret that however moves you : poetry, song, story, silence, fury, tenderness. All of it belongs here.
? Featured Artists
7.30pm - Tender Bud is a Seattle-born songwriter and poet who uses octaves and syllables to weave soundscapes that reach up and dive low. You may recognize her as the front woman of Chiang Mai bands, Terror Terror and Dirt Doll. In this stripped-back form, she shares rough and raw original spoken words and songs, with a protest song or two.
9pm - Yasi Reh is a gender-fluid singer-songwriter. Yasi’s music is a sweet balance of genres; traces of folk, alt-pop, soul, and soft rock heard throughout their discography. Yasi hopes to build solidarity and comfort through their musical projects, with a focus on undervalued voices and identities, feeling that at the core of artistic expression is a pull to quiet the shared loneliness in society. The intersectionality of their identity is often at play in their music, with many sapphic references, themes of mental health, and cultural nods.
10PM - Triple Edge is an indigenous ethnic music collective based in Northern Thailand bringing the community together through the power of sound. Putting the community first, speaking of people's liberation, ethnic struggles and unity in and along the Thai-Burmese Border. What started as a small collective on the sidelines, now has built ties across South-East-Asia and connections to resistance across the world.
? All talents, all genres, all levels welcome. ? Got an instrument? Bring it — or use our house guitar. ? Singers, poets, comedians, storytellers — we want you. ? Magicians, theatre kids, improv crews — the stage is yours. ? Pro, first-timer, or just here for the vibes — grab a seat, grab the mic.
