Ricardo Jacinto’s career path winds through various disciplines that, in his hands, have brilliantly converged, shaping a particularly unique body of work in contemporary Portuguese art. At its core, perhaps, lies his instrument of choice – the cello – from which exceptional music flows, but his stage is a broad system that brings together visual arts and architecture. Space and construction are, therefore, fundamental vectors of his work, and music exists as a sound project of occupation, whether through the space being occupied, the response of the objects he places there, or the music of his countless collaborators. “Manto” is no exception to these compelling premises: through a multichannel sound system, in the beautiful hall of the University Rectory, the whole space will be the stage for the movement of massive sonic textures, fostering the creation of an environment where resonance and matter will merge. Expect a space filled with sound, purposeful gestures, creation and response, and tectonic currents, placing us at the centre of a living score.

O percurso de Ricardo Jacinto é sinuoso entre diversas disciplinas que, nas suas mãos, têm confluído brilhantemente, escrevendo um currículo especialmente único na arte contemporânea portuguesa. No centro talvez esteja o seu instrumento de eleição — o violoncelo —, e daí vem música de excepção, mas o seu palco é um sistema amplo que junta artes visuais e arquitectura. Espaço e construção são, por isso, vectores fundamentais do seu trabalho, e a música existe como um projecto sonoro de ocupação, seja pelo espaço que ocupa, seja pela resposta dos seus objectos ou pela música dos seus inúmeros cúmplices. “Manto” não foge a essas atraentes premissas: num sistema de difusão multicanal, a bela sala da Reitoria da Universidade será o palco total do movimento de texturas sonoras massivas, potenciando a criação de um ambiente onde ressonância e matéria se confundirão. Esperem um lugar cheio de som, de gestos determinísticos, de criação e de resposta, de correntes tectónicas que nos colocarão no centro de uma partitura viva.
