WHEN WE USED TO DANCE OUR HANDS FOLDED AND FIGHTING WAS BEAUTIFUL AND OUR BODIES WERE COVERED WITH ETCHINGS OF LIGHTGPAS is honored to be hosting the art installation, ‘sun, forever’ by Andres Castillo, in our new art gallery at our Resilience HUB—810 Maiden Lane.
Andres Castillo is an interdisciplinary artist specializing in poetry and projection design.
Her practice focuses on bridging the gap between the natural and the digital. As a transgender Salvadoran immigrant raised in the southern United States, she uses her work to create environments where those outside the conventional academic margins of art can inhabit.
Her installation ‘sun, forever’ is a poetry-based installation that visualizes an ecosystem where the worlds of folklore, technology, and disappearances intermingle. It digitizes something innate in human nature and returns it to us in a package fit for an electronic world
Program:
The installation will be open to the public at 2:00 pm with the reception being hosted at 6:00 pm, accompanied by light refreshments.
The performance will begin at 7:00 pm and followed right after by a community conversation lead by our guest speakers.

The Digital Media Specialist for the Division of Performing Arts at the University of Iowa. A media designer specializing in live, interactive visuals for theatre, opera, and dance. Her work integrates live camera, motion capture, and 3D workflows to create immersive experiences.
-Abigail Escatel
A PhD candidate in Latinx Studies and Gender, Women & Sexuality Studies at the University of lowa. A Lulu Merle Johnson Fellow and a teaching fellow for the Center of Teaching. Her area of expertise explores the history of detaining the migrant child and Decolonial studies of Race.
-Cruz Garcia
Director of LoudReaders and WAI
Think Tank. A Puerto Rican architect, artist, and architectural theorist. His practice ask critical questions about the role of architecture, art and pedagogy in the construction of new worlds. His work has been exhibited in places like Chicago, Venice, Berlin, New York, Beijing, Manchester and beyond.

Her work urges that environmental and social justice work are inextricably linked and change can only be facilitated through the dismantling of corrupt colonial-capitalist systems, ReMatriation, and an Indigenous worldview.
