About this Event

Join us for a special morning with coffee, cake, and fascinating history at the Freud Museum in the company of esteemed psychoanalyst Leon Kleimberg.

Event Highlights

Special Tour

We are honoured to welcome psychoanalyst Leon Kleimberg, one of the Museum’s very first guides. Leon will lead a special tour through Freud’s historic home, sharing rare insights, memories of meeting Anna Freud, and reflections drawn from decades of experience.

Exclusive Access

Enjoy exclusive early access to our exhibition before we open to the public. Artist Cathie Pilkington draws attention to the invisible forms of labour involved in caring for the Museum’s collection by channelling Paula Fichtl, the Freud family’s housekeeper.

Personal Stories from Anna Freud’s household

We are also delighted to be joined by Steve Powell, who worked at Anna Freud’s home for many years. Steve will share his memories of Anna Freud, as well as stories of Paula Fichtl, the family’s devoted housekeeper known for her exceptional warmth and hospitality.

The event will be introduced by Anna Jobson, Director of the Freud Museum, and by Daniel Bento, our Head of Operations and the son of Anna Freud’s trusted house custodian, who will also share insights into the history of the Museum.

More about this event

Join us on Saturday 7 February, from 9:00 to 10:30am, for a very special and intimate morning at the Freud Museum. Enjoy freshly brewed coffee, tea, and delicious cake before joining our special guest, Leon Kleimberg, for an exclusive tour of Freud’s historic home. Leon will share insights into Freud’s ground-breaking work on dreams and highlight some of his favourite antiquities from Freud’s remarkable collection, as well as stories from Freud’s final year at 20 Maresfield Gardens.

This unique tour of the Museum, which will include parts of Freud’s home that are normally off-limits to visitors, will allow you to wander through rooms filled with his personal treasures, including the iconic psychoanalytic couch, and to delve into the legacy of Anna Freud, a pioneer in child psychoanalysis.

After Leon Kleimberg’s tour, there will be time for a Q&A, and Steve Powell will share intimate anecdotes about life in Anna Freud’s household, how the home once looked, and the central role played by Paula Fichtl, whose warmth and kindness welcomed and cared for everyone who came through the door.

After the event, you are warmly invited to continue browsing the Museum and Gift Shop once we open to the public at 10:30am.
