About this Event
The µQ Technology Forum brings together the University of Queensland (UQ)’s micro- and nanotechnology facilities, researchers, students and industry professionals for three days of discovery, knowledge-sharing and practical experience.
From microfabrication and advanced characterisation to integrated photonics and quantum technologies, explore the capabilities behind emerging research and innovation, and discover how you could use them in your own work.
Delivered through collaboration across UQ
The Forum brings together expertise from:
- Australian National Fabrication Facility – Queensland Node (ANFF-Qld)
- Centre for Microscopy & Microanalysis – Electron Beam Lithography (CMM-EBL)
- National Advanced Photonics Facility (NAPF)
- National Quantum Computing Testbed (NQCT)
- Faculty of Engineering, Architecture and Information Technology (EAIT)
- Faculty of Science
By connecting facilities and research communities, the Forum aims to strengthen collaboration, improve awareness of available capabilities and help grow UQ’s micro- and nanotechnology community.
Why attend?
- Discover UQ’s capabilities: Explore specialised facilities, equipment and expertise across fabrication, characterisation and photonics.
- Learn from experts: Join seminars, lectures and facility introductions covering technologies and their applications in research and industry.
- Connect across disciplines: Meet researchers, students, technical specialists and industry professionals working across different fields.
- Experience the technology: Apply your knowledge through interactive, equipment-based practical workshops (limited places available).
- Find new opportunities: Discover potential collaborations, research applications and pathways to develop your technical skills.
Three days. Three technology themes.
Day 1 | Fabrication & Characterisation
Discover how micro- and nanostructures are designed, fabricated and characterised, from lithography and processing to advanced imaging and spectroscopy.
Day 2 | Integrated Photonics & Quantum Computing
Explore integrated photonics, optical components and quantum technology capabilities, including how photonic structures are tested and characterised.
Day 3 | Microfluidics & Applications
Explore microfluidic technologies and their applications, alongside relevant engineering, research and characterisation capabilities.
The detailed programme and invited speakers will be announced as arrangements are confirmed.
Event details
Format: Seminars, lectures, facility introductions, tours and practical workshops
Open sessions: For students, researchers and industry professionals
Practical workshops: 15 places
Registration fee: Free
Important: Practical workshops are designed for participants with entry-level to intermediate knowledge of micro- and nanofabrication and characterisation. Places are strictly limited to 15 participants in total, with three groups of up to five participants. Workshop participation will be subject to allocation and confirmation; registering for the Practical Workshops does not automatically guarantee a place.
Who should attend?
The Forum welcomes:
- Undergraduate and Honours students interested in advanced technologies, research and future STEM pathways.
- Higher Degree by Research (HDR) candidates and researchers seeking new techniques, facilities and cross-disciplinary collaborations.
- Industry professionals and practitioners interested in micro- and nanotechnology capabilities, technical applications and research partnerships.
Whether you are new to these technologies or looking to extend your existing expertise, the Forum offers an opportunity to discover what UQ’s micro- and nanotechnology ecosystem can offer.
Programme details, venue, registration arrangements and practical workshop allocation will be updated as they are confirmed.
