Zouk music is a rhythmic and energetic genre that originated in the Caribbean, specifically the French-speaking islands of Guadeloupe and Martinique.
The genre was pioneered by the band Kassav', who fused traditional Caribbean rhythms like gwo ka and biguine with influences from jazz, funk, and modern pop. Zouk is characterized by its infectious beats, lively instrumentation, and smooth vocal harmonies. Over time, it evolved into different subgenres, including "zouk love," which is slower and more romantic in tone
Today, zouk remains popular not just in the Caribbean but also in parts of Africa, Europe, and beyond, bringing people together on the dance floor with its uplifting spirit.
