Our duo project of violin + Hardanger d'amore employs meditative forms, an exploration of spatial resonance, and the implementation of psychoacoustic principles in order to create singular and otherworldly landscapes.
Zosha Warpeha is a Brooklyn-based composer-performer working in a meditative space at the intersection of contemporary improvisation and folk traditions. With bowed strings and voice, her durational performances are explorations of time, tonality, and resonant space. She performs primarily on Hardanger d’amore, a sympathetic-stringed relative of the Norwegian Hardanger fiddle. While her work is informed by the cyclical forms and physical momentum of Nordic folk music, her solo practice "subverts tradition not as a political act, but as a point of departure" (Peter Margasak). Her most recent solo album on Outside Time, I grow accustomed to the dark, has received critical acclaim from The Wire, Pitchfork, and NPR, described as “otherworldly… These are compositions that rely on nuances of the performing body, an assembly of sonic gestures that beckon your ear to lean in closer" (The Wire).
