About this Event

About this class

Once a year the Wednesday class comes back from the dead.

This year, category is "Zombie Zumba". We will be dancing, eating (brains), and more dancing. Zombies, ghouls, vampires, witches, skeletons, cursed mermaids, all welcome.

Zumba is a dance-fitness program that feels like a party but works your whole body. We use simple, repeatable choreography set to energising music, so you get a cardio workout without staring at a clock. No dance experience needed. If you can shuffle and follow along, you can do Zumba. Zombies shuffle anyway.

This one is two hours in the big upstairs room at ESCAC: about 60 minutes of dancing split into rounds, with snack and drink breaks in between because zombies need to eat too. Potluck-style, everyone brings something small to share. We chat, we dance, we eat, and we dance again.

What to expect

The plan, 2 hours of undead chaos

  • 60 minutes of dancing, split into rounds, 'til our limbs fall off
  • Snack and drink breaks (potluck-style, the more the merrier)
  • Dancing again, because zombies don't stay down
  • Group photo and video moments, get your best zombie face ready
  • All the usual fun, just with more groaning

The vibe
All-levels friendly and judgement-free, with options to reduce impact (no jumping), slow it down, or take a pause whenever you need. Expect Latin rhythms, pop and throwback bangers, with a few spooky tracks worked in and a little queer joy on top (sparkles optional, good vibes strongly recommended).

Costumes
Encouraged, not required. Ripped shirt, dark eyes, a bit of fake blood, done.

Running straight from the office? No worries. Face paint, fake blood and accessories will be waiting at the door to zombify you on arrival. Come a little early if you want the full makeover.

First-timers
Parties are the best first class. Wear something you can move in, bring water, pick a spot where you can see me. If you miss a move, keep stepping to the beat and jump back in.

Venue

We dance at the East Sydney Community and Arts Centre (ESCAC), operated by BrandX. We share the space with other performers who rehearse dance, music, and other art.

This class uses the big room on the upper floor, which comfortably holds up to 50 people, and we keep the class capped around 40 so there's plenty of room to move.

Address: 40 Burton Street, Darlinghurst NSW 2010 (corner of Burton St and Palmer St)

---

Getting there and parking

ESCAC is just behind Oxford Street on the corner of Burton St and Palmer St (yes, the one that ends with "Palms"). It's a few minutes' walk from buses running along Oxford Street.

If you're driving, street parking in Darlinghurst is possible, but it can be limited or time-restricted. Give yourself a little extra time to find a spot.

---

Arrival and building access

Doors open around 6:30 pm for makeup and setup, dancing starts at 7. Look for a cheerful (slightly undead) group outside the building, or upstairs if the doors are already open. If you hear happy chaos, you're probably in the right place.

If you're running late, no stress. Come through the glass door and slip in, then join when you're ready, just be mindful of classmates moving around.

---

Booking and tickets

No membership, no lock-in. Grab a ticket here and come dance. Got a leaflet with a code? Pop it in at checkout for the $7 ticket.

On a class pack? Zombie Zumba is covered like any other class, just book it on Calendance.

Come often? Talk to me after class. My class packs work out cheaper than drop-in rates, and they cover every class I run. No pressure, whenever you're ready.

---

Cancellation policy

If you booked a ticket here on Eventbrite: you can cancel up to 3 day before class for a refund. After that, unfortunately we can't refund you, since the spot is already held.

---

At the class

Please read the terms and conditions of participating in my Zumba class before finishing the registration.

If you have an injury, are pregnant, or are returning to exercise, consider checking in with a health professional first.

Listen to your body and adjust the intensity to your fitness level. You're welcome to take lower-impact options, pause, or step out for air at any time.

---

Accessibility and comfort

I aim to make class welcoming and easy to follow.

  • Lower-impact options are always available.
  • You can pause, step out, or modify moves at any time.
  • If you have access needs or questions about the space (sound level, lighting, stairs, seating), message me and I'll tell you what to expect.

---

What to bring
  • 🍕 Something small to share with the horde (potluck)
  • 🍹 Drinks (BYO, whatever you fancy)
  • 🎃 Costume vibes (effort optional, vibe encouraged)
  • Comfortable, supportive shoes you can dance in
  • Clothes you can move in and don't mind getting a bit of fake blood on
  • Water
  • A small towel (optional, but you'll thank yourself later)
