About this Event
Zine making as a method for critiquing AI
This workshop is a continuation of the zine project “Techno(Ir)realism: AI, Academia and its possible futures?” A Multimedia Zine” formed by Beyond the Algorithm group, based at Bayreuth University Germany. The workshop introduces the methodology of zines as research practice, and each participant will create their own page for the zine.
The workshop exposes participants to Zines as a useful qualitative research method that provides a tangible, grassroots way of modelling lived experiences, capturing the emotional depth and nuance of personal stories more effectively than traditional text-based approaches. As a participatory and empowering method, they enable individuals to act as storytellers and experts while also serving as primary sources that document raw, often marginalized perspectives and offer valuable insight into subcultures, social movements, and personal experiences.
Join us in person to explore the creative world of zine making. Whether you're a newbie or a zine pro, we'll dive into hands-on activities that let you express your thoughts on AI's impact through art and words. Come hang out, get inspired, and make something unique!
