On this carpet, tears do not spill over the edge: Literature between Central Europe and Southwest Asia Is it possible for Muslim authors to write a poem without using the words “figs,” “desert,” or “war”? What demands do we face as writers, and what expectations are placed on us by literary critics, by readers, and by ourselves? And is there someone as a muslim author?
Do we have to use code-switching for writing that straddles multiple cultures? How can we keep our writing accessible to readers without compromising ourselves? And what place remains for literature and poetry amid the genocides, wars and the wider human rights crisis?
These and many other questions, touching on identity, family history, and our own place in ever-changing global communities, will be explored by writers and poets who combine the urgency of literary expression with personal experiences that reaches beyond the individual.
The discussion will be held in English, with poetry readings accompanied by Czech translation. This event has been made possible by the kind support of the Czech-German Future Fund / Podpořeno Česko-německým fondem budoucnosti.
