Zé Ibarra er en af de mest fremtrædende skikkelser fra den nye bølge af brasilianske kunstnere. I tråd med navne som Bruno Berle og Nyron Higor, og som medstifter af den prisvindende gruppe Bala Desejo, skubber han til grænserne for Música Popular Brasileira – arven fra 1960’ernes Brasilien, hvor traditionelle genrer som samba og bossa nova mødte pop, jazz og rock. Ibarras lyd er groovy, nostalgisk og mættet af varme blæsere, akustisk guitar og en levende rytmesektion. Med rødder i bandet Dônica og som en del af den Grammy-vindende gruppe Bala Desejo – der begejstrede publikum på Roskilde i 2023 – har Zé Ibarra desuden optrådt med ikoner som Milton Nascimento.
