Youth Songwriting with the Steve Marc BandYour kids are invited to join Steve Marc and band to write their own song and perform a short set at the Woodstove Festival of Music and Arts in the Weird Church.
Steve Marc is a prolific songwriter with over a hundred songs in his name and hundreds more that have been coached with children in Freedom Arts - Rhythm and Songwriting programs throughout BC. Freedom Arts was co-founded by Steve with program leader Angela Roy and their band Barefoot Caravan in 2014 at Edge of the World Festival in Haida Gwaii, BC. The program has been hosted throughout the province at various festivals, schools and other community events including last year's Woodstove Festival of Music and Arts. These programs are always a hit; very much enjoyed and appreciated by event organizers, parents and children everywhere they’ve been held.
Steve Marc now has his own band and team of songwriters who have seen wonderful successes at Woodstove Festival (Cumberland), Harmony Festival (Slocan) and recently a wonderful local grant funded event at the Charles Bailey Theatre in Trail. We would love to help coach your children in writing their own song to perform at this year's Woodstove Festival again.
Your children will spend the morning learning songs, playing rhythm games, learning about songwriting and song structure to finally write their very own songs in a group setting to be performed on the Weird Chruch stage, backed up by the Steve Marc band.

Hi Steve,
I can't thank you and your band enough for the excellent song writer's workshop you held. My daughter Ada loved it, she said it was the best part of Woodstove!
You and your band were so generous with your time and expertise. When I came to watch the show, I was so impressed by how relaxed and comfortable Ada and her friends were about singing their song on stage. In addition to teaching important music and composition skills you obviously also created an atmosphere of safety that allows kids to take risks with confidence. I was so touched by how much you and your band mates gave to our children. This evening Ada and her younger brother were watching all the songs from the workshop over and over again. It was really encouraging for them to see other kids also writing music and performing. I have no doubt that this work you do will have a lasting impact on these young musicians. I am beyond glad that we signed up for this and will look for you again next year.
Catherine
