Youth Mental Health First Aid Course
(2 Days | 14 Hours)
A conversation has the power to change a life—and sometimes even save one.
Every day, young people experience mental health challenges, yet many don't seek help until they reach crisis point. Knowing how to recognise the signs, start a supportive conversation, and guide a young person towards appropriate help can make a lasting difference.
This accredited Youth Mental Health First Aid course teaches adults how to provide initial support to a young person (aged 12–18) who may be experiencing a mental health problem or mental health crisis until appropriate professional help is received or the crisis resolves.
Throughout this engaging, evidence-based course, you'll develop the knowledge, confidence and practical skills to:
Recognise the signs and symptoms of common mental health problems in adolescents.
Identify when a young person's mental health may be worsening.
Confidently start a conversation with a young person you are concerned about.
Respond to a range of mental health crises, including suicidal thoughts and behaviours, panic attacks, non-suicidal self-injury, traumatic events and severe psychotic states.
Provide initial support using the internationally recognised Mental Health First Aid Action Plan.
Encourage appropriate professional help and other support options.
Reduce stigma and contribute to a more mentally healthy and supportive community.
Mental health research has advanced significantly over recent years, yet many people still rely on outdated myths or are unsure how to respond when someone is struggling. This course bridges that gap by providing practical, evidence-based strategies that you can use with confidence in real-life situations.
Whether you're a parent, teacher, education support staff member, coach, youth worker, healthcare professional, manager or simply someone who wants to better support the young people in your life, this course will equip you with skills that can make a genuine difference.
As an experienced educational leader, accredited Mental Health First Aid Facilitator and advocate for trauma-informed practice, MHFA with Mon strives to create a welcoming, engaging and supportive learning environment where participants feel comfortable asking questions, sharing ideas and building confidence. My goal is for every participant to leave not only with knowledge, but with the confidence to put that knowledge into practice when it matters most.
Upon successful completion of the course requirements, you'll become an Accredited Mental Health First Aider (MHFAider), receiving a certificate from Mental Health First Aid Australia that is valid for three years.
This course is recognised by Suicide Prevention Australia as a safe, high-quality and effective suicide prevention program.
I look forward to welcoming you to the course and helping you build the confidence to support the young people in your family, workplace, school or community.
