This Youth Mental Health First Aid (YMHFA) training will be an in-person training and is a 2 day training. Pre-registration is required and is for both days.Course Cost: The cost for the course is free to Jackson and Hillsdale county residents due to sponsorship by LifeWays.
About: Youth Mental Health First Aid is designed to teach how to help adolescents (ages 12-18) who are experiencing a mental health or addictions challenge or are in crisis. Youth Mental Health First Aid is primarily designed for adults who regularly interact with young people. The course introduces common mental health challenges for youth, reviews typical adolescent development, and teaches a 5-step action plan for how to help young people in both crisis and non-crisis situations. Topics covered include anxiety, depression, substance use, disorders in which psychosis may occur, disruptive behavior disorders (including AD/HD), and eating disorders. Upon graduation from the course you will be provided with a certificate and become a Youth Mental Health First Aider.
Youth Mental Health First Aiders are… parents, family members, caregivers, teachers, school staff, peers, neighbors, health and human services workers, and other caring citizens. They’re people in recovery, and those supporting a loved one. They’re First Ladies and Mayors. Youth Mental Health First Aiders are anyone who wants to make their world healthier, happier and safer for youth in their communities.
