Guests are invited to explore the newly improved Main Street corridor and experience the safer, more accessible, and more connected downtown space.
This is a public event by The City of Vancouver and Vancouver’s Downtown Association.
The Main Street Promise project represents 30 years of planning and community vision. The project included major upgrades to aging infrastructure, including water, wastewater, and stormwater utilities, some of which had not been updated in nearly 100 years. Main Street and sections of surrounding side streets were repaved, with new traffic signals and an e-bike charging station also added.
Safety improvements include speed bumps, enhanced intersections and crosswalks, and a transition to parallel parking. Accessibility improvements include a curbless corridor with extended, ADA-compliant sidewalks, tactile sidewalk treatments, and audible crossings.
The transformation also includes decorative lighting, dedicated spaces for public art, 104 bike parking spaces, removable bollards to support pedestrian-only events, event power access, and new outdoor seating and furnishings designed to create a more welcoming and vibrant Main Street.
