Drawing on New York City’s incredible cultural diversity, Plant Powered Metro New York invites community members to gather around your neighbor’s table for Climate Week NYC, held in conjunction with the UN General Assembly. Meet community chefs representing cultures from around the world who have prepared dishes made of whole plant foods, rooted in their heritage.
Rotate from table to table sampling flavors, collecting recipes, hearing the stories behind each dish, and learning the powerful benefits of plant-based eating for environmental and human health. Along the way, you’ll discover that while every culture has its own unique culinary traditions, many share a common thread of delicious, nourishing plant foods and meals.
Plants have nourished communities for generations, and the cultivation of plant foods has a dramatically gentler environmental footprint than large-scale animal agriculture. Your Neighbor’s Table is a celebration of the many ways plant-powered eating has long been woven into cultures from around the world, centering beans, grains, vegetables, fruits, nuts, herbs, and spices.
We invite you to rediscover the wisdom found across cultures and leave with delicious and practical strategies (and recipes!) to support your health and the health of our planet for generations to come.
