Beneath the polished facade of York lies a city forged in fire, betrayal and the relentless rumble of iron wheels. History here is not just observed in museums, it is etched into the stones you walk upon. Unlock the capital of the North with this self-guided audio tour. Navigate away from the dense crowds to uncover scandalous rebellions and forgotten dramas that shaped the nation, from the timber frames of Barley Hall to the haunting glass of Holy Trinity Church. Fifteen stops through the medieval core, taking in the Shambles, Fairfax House, St Mary's Abbey and the Museum Gardens, at your own pace with narration playing as you walk. Your phone is the guide, so start whenever you like and pause for coffee whenever you want.
