Yoga builds so many wonderful things. But are we doing enough to build strength? As we age, maintaining muscle mass, bone density, balance, and functional strength becomes increasingly important. While yoga offers tremendous benefits, yoga alone doesn't always provide the progressive resistance needed to maximize muscular strength and support bone health.
That's where this training comes in.
Join us for an engaging, educational, and highly experiential five-hour workshop exploring the science of strength training and how thoughtfully incorporating weights into yoga can enhance the benefits of your practice.
This is not simply a yoga class with dumbbells.
Think of it as a combination of a yoga workshop, an anatomy and exercise science education course, and a small-group personal training experience.
You'll spend time learning why strength training matters, but just as importantly, you'll put that knowledge into practice.
Through guided movement, hands-on exploration, and individualized feedback on your form, alignment, and movement mechanics, you'll develop a greater understanding of how your body moves, how to work with resistance safely, and how to get more out of every movement.
Some things you'll learn:
Strength, Bone Health & Aging: Understand the role of resistance training in maintaining muscle mass, supporting bone density, and preserving physical independence as we age.
The Science of Building Strength: Explore foundational exercise science principles, including progressive overload, muscular adaptation, and appropriate resistance.
Movement Mechanics & Proper Form: Learn how to move with greater efficiency and confidence, with individualized coaching and feedback throughout the training.
Yoga Meets Weights: Explore how light weights and other forms of resistance can be incorporated into familiar yoga postures and movement patterns.
Functional Strength: Discover how strengthening the body can support everyday activities, stability, balance, and long-term mobility.
Safety & Smart Modifications: Learn how to choose appropriate loads, recognize limitations, and modify movements for different bodies and abilities.
You do NOT need to be a yoga teacher to attend!
If you love yoga but want to better understand how to build strength, support healthy aging, and move more confidently, this training is for you.
You'll receive personalized feedback in a supportive small-group setting, making this an especially valuable opportunity to learn proper technique while gaining practical knowledge you can use in your own practice.
If you are or aspire to be a Yoga Teacher:
This training is also Level 1 of our developing three-part Yoga + Strength professional education series.
Level 1 establishes the essential foundation in resistance training, exercise science, anatomy, movement mechanics, and safe integration of weights into yoga.
Teachers interested in expanding their knowledge and teaching skills will have the opportunity to continue into more advanced training modules focused on programming, sequencing, and teaching methodology.
No prior weight-training experience is necessary. Just bring your curiosity and a willingness to learn!
