I love Yoga because I have witnessed it help so many people find balance and connect with an inner source of joy.
I have lived by the affirmation, 'a flexible spine is a flexible mind' and 'strong feet make for a strong body'. These are core to how my classes work from the ground up and the inside out to help my students become strong and flexible both ON and OFF the mat. This class includes heavily guided alignment cues, as well as philosophy- It is designed to spark physical, mental, and spiritual breakthroughs. You'll find breathwork, movement and meditation in every class. Occasionally, if I feel called to take the teachings deeper, this class could morph into a workshop setting. Teachings derive from, Classic Hatha Yoga, Anusara Yoga and Irest Yoga Nidra.
You may be asking, Should I Attend? This class is aimed at able bodied, somewhat athletic humans- Beginners and advanced practitioners of yoga will get a lot out of this basic introductory class. This one will run for 7 sessions, culminating on December 17th. No class on Thanksgiving!
Donations are welcome and celebrated. A generous portion of the proceeds will go back to different limbs of FSC. I plan to choose a different one each week.
About your instructor- I, Alicia Siegel, have been practicing yoga for more than 30 years, first discovering it in gym class at age 12. My teaching draws from both Eastern and Western approaches, with an emphasis on helping each person find a practice that feels supportive and appropriate for their body. My first teacher training was a month long immersion at Yoga Vidya Gurukul in Nashik, India in 2007. (www.yogapoint.com)
My second teacher training was spread out over many years, beginning with an immersion in Anusara Yoga sometime around 2010 and culminating the teacher training with Heart Centered Yoga at From the Heart Yoga here in Grand Rapids.
I have experienced a great deal of luck in my practice- one of the most lucky things that happened for me was that one of my mentors used me as a guinea pig for their Irest Yoga Nidra teacher certification for the duration of their training. This gave me a deeply rooted experiential understanding of the practice. During the pandemic, I enrolled in an online level 1 training. I still return to the material regularly. Yoga nidra was how I discovered yoga. I have practiced some form of Body Scan Relaxation every day since I discovered the practice back in 1995. You are going to LOVE the relaxation part of the class!!
I am also a strength junky. Acro Yoga was a big part of my life for about 10 years. I have done most of the teacher trainings. I find it to be a bit too risky these days, but the skills I acquired while I was practicing acro include strength conditioning, partner stretching and partner balance sequences. I get so excited writing all of this. Can't wait to get started with this class!
I am relatively new to Grand Rapids. For 20 years, I paired yoga teaching with massage therapy. It was a continuous deep study of the human body, movement, awareness, and healing. In 2021, due to a career shift, I closed my business Infinite Bliss Yoga and Bodywork in Kalamazoo, Michigan. Since then, I have continued to teach at festivals and retreats- and occasionally online.
It is going to be SO fun to OFFER YOGA in the Chapel at Fountain Street community. See you there!
Back in my studio, I would have charged $99 for the 7 week class. I am attaching a link for you to pay $99 as your donation for the entire thing. In the spirit of FSC, Donations are *not* mandatory but they are appreciated. Personally, I like to make them and receive for a while and then make them again. If this is you, you may donate through the provided link. You are also welcome to give on a class by class basis.
