Yoga to electronic music. Then we open the floor and dance.
Yoga Electronica is a new sober Sunday in Logan Square. The afternoon starts on the mat with breath and guided movement, all set to electronic music. Bit by bit the teaching falls away, the DJ takes over, and the room turns into a dance floor. There's no break and no moment where class ends and the party begins — it's one continuous afternoon.
September 27 is the very first one. After that, it's every other Sunday: same time, same room.
HOW THE AFTERNOON MOVES
- 2:30 PM · Doors and arrival — mats out, shoes off, water and juice
- 2:50 PM · Breathwork and chanting — settling the nervous system
- 3:00 PM · Guided yoga to downtempo and chill beats — alignment and movement taught, then free-flow pauses to explore each one in your own body
- 3:30 PM · Instruction dissolves — less cueing, more autonomy — the room starts moving on its own
- 3:45 PM · Live DJ dance — progressive house — free movement, all the way through
- 5:15 PM · Musical landing and closing circle — the last tracks come down — stretch, rest, breathe. Doors close at 5:30 PM
Can't make the start? Come at 3:45 for the dance. Same ticket.
THE ROOM
- Sober floor — no alcohol, no substances. Water and juice provided.
- Minimal conversation while dancing; step off the floor to talk.
- Consent before any partnered movement, every time.
- Phones off the floor. Photos only when everyone has said yes.
- Move however your body wants. Resting, stretching, and lying down all count.
WHO IT'S FOR
Anyone who needs to move. Never done yoga? Perfect. Haven't danced since your last night out? Also perfect. Sober, sober-curious, or just done with Sundays that start at a bar — you're welcome here. No experience needed, and resting always counts.
WHAT TO BRING
Mats and blocks are provided. Bring your own mat if you prefer it, plus water and clothes you can sweat in. Shoes come off at the door.
YOUR HOST
Rich Cotter has been a licensed massage therapist in Illinois since 2005. He teaches Hatha yoga, has trained with kettlebells for 14 years, and has been DJing since 2001 as Richkid Rich. Yoga and kettlebells are what replaced drinking for him. Yoga Electronica is the room he wished existed: somewhere to move hard, feel good in your body, and actually meet people — no drink in hand.
