The Worthing Philharmonic Orchestra welcomes one of the world’s greatest cellists, Raphael Wallfisch, to play Elgar’s Cello Concerto, among the most iconic ever written for this instrument. This special 2026-27 season opening concert also includes Holst’s The Planets, which remains among the most popular and powerful orchestral works in the repertoire. We are joined for this by the soprano and alto voices of the Brighton16 chamber choir.
The concert opens with Richard Strauss’s most exuberant and witty tone poem, based on the medieval Germanic folk legend of the mischievous trickster Till Eulenspiegel.
And before this, the full WPO brass section welcomes you to the new concert season with Strauss's rousing 'Fanfare for the Vienna Philharmonic'.
Programme:
Strauss: Wiener Philharmoniker Fanfare
Strauss: Till Eulenspiegels lustige Streiche
Elgar:Cello Concerto in E minor
