Kitty Calvert and the Beasts of Adornment will be taking up residence in the Foyer and ARB Galleries at Gasworks Creative Precinct and invite you to join them for the opening celebration of WORN: Wearable and Unwearable Objects.WORN is an exhibition of assemblage exploring adornment, memory, transformation, and the curious lives of objects. Constructed from fragments of vintage treasure, each work exists somewhere between jewellery and artefact, relic and ornament.
Suggesting wearability while quietly resisting it through scale, weight, and imbalance, these assemblages draw upon the long history of adornment as a marker of ritual, status, protection, and identity, as well as decoration and humour. In doing so, they shift adornment from the body to the wall, inviting viewers to reconsider the objects we wear, keep, inherit, remember and display.
Following the opening celebration, the exhibition will continue during Gasworks normal opening hours and Melbourne Fringe shows until 25 October.
