To mark World Water Monitoring Day, celebrated annually on 18 September, join us at Simar Nature Reserve and discover what is really in the water of a nature reserve.
The initiative began in the United States in 2002 as National Water Monitoring Day and developed into World Water Monitoring Day in 2003. It was created by America’s Clean Water Foundation, in partnership with the International Water Association and the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency, to raise public awareness of water quality and encourage communities worldwide to monitor and protect their local rivers, lakes, wetlands and coastal waters.
Our European Solidarity Corps volunteers and Visitor Assistants will demonstrate the equipment used to monitor water quality, explain which parameters we measure, and explore why healthy water is essential for aquatic plants, invertebrates, birds and other wetland wildlife.
This free, informal activity will run throughout the day. No booking is required. Visit whenever it suits you, ask questions and discover what is happening beneath the water’s surface.
The event is family-friendly, and curious children are just as welcome as curious adults.
