This is a hands-on workshop in which scenes are created, directed and performed by the participants, under my guidance as a professional director and screenwriter.It’s an exciting opportunity, not only to develop your chosen skill but to go beyond it, if you choose to. Writers will have the chance to direct their own written material. Directors can write scenes and even perform in them. And actors can discover what it’s like to direct and write. You will find that by stepping out of your own box, you will expand your knowledge of filmmaking in general.
And most enriching of all, you will have the experience of practicing your art in a community of fellow artists. Actors: you’ll get to be directed in written scenes. Writers: you’ll get to see and hear your material performed. Directors: you’ll have writers and actors to collaborate with—and an audience as well!
I’ve now taught this workshop several times at Cinemantrix and I love doing so because its energy, fueled by co-creation, stretches everyone’s capabilities. How? Because we’re not only learning—we’re doing, discovering through experience, trying things out and giving one another helpful feedback. It’s work, but it’s also play—and great imaginative fun.
We welcome all levels of experience and invite newcomers as well as those who’ve taken this workshop before: you’ll surpass what you’ve already learned and take yourself to another level.
