This intensive five-day workshop offers a practical introduction to the traditional process of icon painting using natural pigments and a wax-based emulsion.Under the guidance of Kseniia Bludova, participants will follow the creation of an icon step by step, combining demonstrations by the teacher with individual practical work.
The workshop begins with the preparation and transfer of the drawing, followed by the development of the composition and colour scheme. Participants will learn how to work with natural pigments, create a harmonious colour palette, establish the main colours and tonal relationships, and gradually build light and shadow.
Special attention will be given to the painting and modelling of the face, as well as to the details and final stages that bring the icon to completion.
Each stage will first be demonstrated by Kseniia and then carried out individually by the participants, with personal guidance and supervision throughout the process.
Every participant will work on a prepared wooden icon panel, creating a composition based on a single half-length figure. The subject is intentionally designed to allow participants with different levels of previous experience to work through all the essential stages of the process within the five-day programme.
The workshop is strongly practice-based and is designed to give participants direct experience of the materials, colours and working methods involved in icon painting.
At the end of the course, each participant will leave with their own completed icon, created during 30 hours of practical workshop activity.
Materiale necessario
Participants should bring:
Round brushes with a long, fine tip – approximately sizes No. 1, 1.5 and 3
Round or flat brushes – approximately sizes No. 4 and 6
Brushes may be synthetic or Kolinsky sable
Kolinsky sable brushes are recommended by the instructor

The workshop will take place with a minimum of 6 participants. If the minimum number is not reached, the workshop will be cancelled and any participation fees already paid will be fully refunded by bank transfer.
