About this Event

The DC Workforce Investment Council (DC WIC) invites you to serve as a key representative in re-establishing the DC WIC Workforce Development Community of Practice (CoP).

Our primary mission is to break down institutional silos, braid strategies, and resolve the ongoing systemic barriers that restrict District job seekers from successfully securing and retaining high-quality employment. To achieve this, the re-launched Community of Practice will transition from general information sharing to an action-oriented peer network focused on three critical, high-impact pillars shaping the District’s human capital landscape:

1. Establishing Unified Job Readiness Elements

A key challenge for District customers is the lack of standardized metrics regarding what makes a job seeker "workforce ready." The CoP will collaborate to define a clear, universal baseline of job readiness. This framework will ensure that frontline case managers across all city programs share common assessment criteria, reducing disparities in employment outcomes and ensuring participants are comprehensively prepared for competitive placement.

2. Leveraging Artificial Intelligence (AI) to Modernize Case Management

To increase efficiency and deliver personalized care on a scale, the District must modernize its service delivery. The CoP will evaluate and design frameworks for integrating AI tools into daily case management. By exploring automating routine administrative tracking and predictive compliance paperwork, we aim to free up front-line staff so they can dedicate more face-to-face time to job coaching, intensive intake, and long-term client retention.

3. Transitioning to Collaborative Business Engagement Strategies

Employer outreach in the District has historically been highly fragmented, with multiple departments and training providers competing for the attention of the same local businesses. In partnership with the DC WIC Business Engagement CoP, we will design a coordinated ecosystem. By treating local employers as a shared District asset, we can create a unified, frictionless market intelligence loop that directly aligns occupational training with actual real-time hiring needs.

Your Role and Next Steps

As a core leader in the District's workforce ecosystem, your voice is essential to ensuring the District’s workforce strategies transform from policy into operational reality. CoP representatives will participate in quarterly strategy development sessions, participate in action-oriented working groups, and build the infrastructure required to remove employment hurdles for our residents
