🫶 A Show Created Especially for Children and Young People with DisabilityWith the Albany Show coming up, we know that for some families, large crowds, noise and busy environments can make attending community events difficult or overwhelming. That's why I wanted to share something special which is coming to the Albany Entertainment Centre on Albany Show weekend, November 13 & 14.
Wonderbox by Sensorium Theatre is coming to Albany for a second visit, and this beautiful performance has been created specifically for children and young people with disability and their families.
This isn't a show that has simply been made accessible. It has been designed from the ground up with your children in mind.
✨Multi-sensory and immersive
✨ Relaxed performance environment
✨Freedom to move around or take breaks whenever needed
✨ Chill-out zone with comfortable seating and minimal sound
✨Multi-modal communication including key signs, natural gestures and visual symbols
✨ Strong visual storytelling and music
✨Opportunities for interaction and participation throughout the performance
The incredible team from Sensorium are some of the most understanding, welcoming and experienced artists you'll meet. They have performed around the world, won numerous awards, and create theatre experiences that genuinely celebrate and include children with disability.
One of the things I love most about Wonderbox is that audiences are intentionally kept small. Each performance welcomes only up to 15 children and their carers, creating a calm, supportive and personalised experience. The space can also accommodate up to 6 wheelchair users.
If the Albany Show isn't the right fit for your child this year, or if you're looking for a quieter and more inclusive experience during the same weekend, Wonderbox may be a wonderful alternative.
Sensorium will also adapt the performance to the audience, and our friendly Box Office team would be delighted to discuss any specific requirements your family may have before booking.
We would love to welcome you and your family to this truly magical experience.
Tickets are $25 per participant with carers free. Siblings are also welcome to attend, but will require a ticket if they wish to participate in the performance.
The show is also welcoming schools to performances on November 12th, 13th, and 16th so if you would like your school to attend please tell them to get in touch.
