Witches, Women & the Stories We Tell
A Salem Adventure Inspired by I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem
Join Jenna's Traveling Book Club for a fascinating day in Salem as we take Maryse Condé's I, Tituba, Black Witch of Salem off the page and into the real world!
We'll begin at the , exploring its Salem Witch Trials exhibition and the real history behind the events of 1692.
Then we'll head to a beautiful waterfront location for a special presentation by the Director of Education from the Salem Witch Museum.
Together, we'll explore the fascinating questions raised by Tituba's story:
- Who was the real Tituba, and what do we actually know about her?
- Where does historical fact end and fiction begin?
- How have women and people of color been silenced, marginalized, or persecuted throughout history?
- How did the image of the wicked witch develop, and what does it have to do with women's power, traditional healing, and society's fears?
We'll round out our adventure with a hands-on medicinal herb activity, thoughtful conversation about the book, and plenty of opportunities to connect with fellow curious readers.
Part history, part mystery, part book club—and a whole lot of fun!
