Central Illinois’ own Woke Mountain Boys bring their blend of folk, bluegrass and Americana to the Rose Bowl Tavern.
Featuring the original songs of singer and guitarist Professor Jay Rosenstein alongside a group of veteran C-U musicians including bassist John Tubbs, Woke Mountain Boys deliver rich, cinematic storytelling rooted in the spirit of the Midwest.
Their debut release, *Afraid of Leaving Home*, earned Top Ten Album of 2024 honors from Illinois Entertainer Magazine, which compared their sound to the legacy of beloved Illinois songwriters Steve Goodman and John Prine — warm, honest and deeply resonant.
Songwriter Steve Earle said of the album’s title track: “if there weren’t so many witnesses, I’d steal it. The first verse is nearly perfect!”
