Step into Within the Realm of Shadows, a fine art photographic exhibition by Greensboro artist Paul C. Nixon, exploring the haunting beauty of the rural Irish landscape and its enduring connection to Gaelic mythology. Presented in striking black and white, Nixon’s photographs look beyond the familiar countryside to reveal dramatic light, solitary trees, ancient stones and shadowed hills steeped in mystery.Inspired by the idea of Ireland’s “thin places”—landscapes where the veil between the earthly and otherworldly is believed to grow especially thin—the collection invites viewers to consider the stories and spirits that seem to linger within the land. Hawthorn trees become sentinels, rolling hills evoke hidden realms, and shifting skies suggest the presence of something ancient just beyond view.
Transporting this mystical landscape from the ancient soils of Ireland to the historic halls of The Marshall Muse Gallery, Nixon’s work offers an atmospheric journey into folklore, memory and the unseen. The exhibition will be on view throughout October, with a Community Gallery reception on October 25 from 2–4 p.m., when visitors can meet the artist, enjoy refreshments and experience the collection in his company.
Within the Realm of Shadows will be on view September 30th through October 31st, 2026, at The Marshall Muse Gallery, 314 N. Church St., Greensboro.
